New life for brownfield land
Weavers Close brought fifty-nine affordable homes to Peterlee in County Durham on previously derelict brownfield land off Stephenson Road. BREE Construction, then trading as Partner Construction, delivered the 9.8 million pound scheme for believe housing, transforming a disused site into a new residential neighbourhood.
The development revived land that had stood derelict, replacing it with quality affordable homes for local people. Work began in May 2022, and the completed scheme was widely credited with breathing new life into the area and supporting the wider regeneration of Peterlee.

Homes and mix
The scheme provided a varied mix of homes to suit different households. It included twenty-three two-bedroom homes, thirty three-bedroom homes and six four-bedroom homes, together with six bungalows, giving choice across family sizes and supporting older or less mobile residents alongside families.
Demand for the homes was strong, with reports of 157 bids and a substantial register of interest from people seeking to move. The development also contributed to a significant milestone for believe housing, with one couple's purchase marking the association's one-thousandth new build home.
Delivery and partnership
Partner Construction delivered the homes for believe housing between 2022 and 2025, managing the brownfield site from initial works through to completion. The scheme was registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme at Stephenson Road, with believe housing as client and Partner Construction as principal contractor, working alongside Durham County Council as the local authority.
Subcontractors including RE:GEN Group supported the believe housing programme, and Weavers Close became part of a broader pipeline of more than three hundred homes the association was bringing forward. Residents have spoken positively about the impact of their new homes, including improvements to health and wellbeing.
Local people were involved from the outset, with the start of work on site featuring members of the community, reinforcing the scheme's role in the regeneration of Peterlee and its connection to the people it was built to serve.
